This is Opsgenie’s first Summit as an official part of the Atlassian team, and there are lots of exciting announcements and product enhancements to share. Post-acquisition, our goal continues to be empowering Dev, IT, and Ops teams to rapidly respond to, resolve, and learn from incidents, and these features were born from that mission.

Intuitive new user interface & seamless access with Atlassian Identity Management

Inspired by customer feedback, the new look of Opsgenie is streamlined, with a similar aesthetic to other Atlassian products. Users will find the new UI easier to navigate thanks to a simplified menu, and visual enhancements add clarity to the alert and incident information.

Other changes include:

  • Separate pages for Incidents and Alerts
  • In-context action buttons that are revealed when your cursor hovers over an alert
  • Access to a support hub that provides in-app guidance and tips

Additionally, Jira Cloud users can save time and streamline setup by using their Atlassian ID to create new Opsgenie accounts and trials. To get started with an Opsgenie account, go to the site administration settings in Jira Software and Jira Service Desk. Check out the video for a full tour.

Faster resolution with Opsgenie Actions

Opsgenie's Automated Actions feature with AWS Systems Manager.

Incident responders can save significant time investigating and resolving issues by automating tasks with Opsgenie Actions. For instance, Opsgenie Actions works with AWS Systems Manager to automate tasks like restarting an AWS EC2 instance or managing security roles directly from the Opsgenie application (this functionality is available via mobile devices and web browsers). Also, Opsgenie can trigger additional actions through any third-party application that can accept a Webhook.

One source of truth with Timeline

Opsgenie Timeline offers one place to keep everyone up to speed during and after an incident, listing key details like incident status, associated alerts, updates, Incident Command Center (ICC) activity, and more. Thanks to deep integrations with Jira Software, you can now easily view all related Jira tickets in the Timeline. This streamlined summary is visible from the incident details, and it is also displayed as part of the Postmortem Report.

Continuous learning with Postmortem Reports

Opsgenie's Postmortems list and timeline feature.

Postmortems are a necessary part of any incident management process. They empower teams to learn from every incident and enable continuous improvement to the customer experience during downtime. Opsgenie’s new Postmortem Reports feature helps summarize all the information related to an incident in a consistent, easy-to-read format, alleviating the frustration of a manual process. You can also easily plug in your own details as needed to help drive follow-up actions and document lessons learned.

Proactive monitoring of external services via Statuspage integration

Mockup of Opsgenie's Statuspage integration.

If your company depends on external services that use Atlassian’s Statuspage, you’ll be happy to know that you can now add and view their status directly from the Service page in Opsgenie. This allows you to monitor your services’ health at a glance and trigger alerts and incidents in Opsgenie when a service is degraded.

Enhanced security with Edge Encryption

Opsgenie users can now secure sensitive data before it leaves their environment using Edge Encryption. Leveraging the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES Encryption), Opsgenie encrypts all alert details and user data. Only the message, priority, tags, and alias fields remain unencrypted, as they are necessary to use Opsgenie. Encryption keys are managed by customers; Atlassian has no access to the raw payload data, and neither do potential hackers.

Secure bi-directional integrations with Opsgenie Edge Connector

Opsgenie Edge Connector is a new lightweight app that can be deployed on-premises or in the cloud to provide secure bi-directional integration for systems that are not accessible to the internet. Edge connector also enables you to:

  • Utilize scripts in any language you want (Python, Go, Groovy, shell scripts, etc)
  • Easily pass variables and parameters to scripts
  • Trigger executables from Opsgenie on local or cloud systems
  • Integrate with Git to store scripts, credentials, and config files in a repository

Ospgenie Edge Connector ensures secure communications, fetches data for quicker response times, and helps execute remediation actions.

In the coming weeks, many of these enhancements will be detailed in videos and blog posts. Keep an eye on the blog and join us in the Atlassian Community for more helpful content.
