The Tip of the Month, brought to you by Atlassian University, is a monthly series aimed to help you master Atlassian’s tools. Products are more fun to use when you know all the tricks.

If you’re reading this blog, you probably spend a lot of time in Jira, just like me. The four most common Jira actions I do are:

  • Comment
  • Assign
  • Create
  • Edit

That’s where M, A, C & E come in: my favorite Jira keyboard shortcuts!

Last month’s Tip introduced the jacks-of-all-trades dot and comma dialogs. Today’s tip is about the masters of one: Perform common actions with a single keystroke, so you can get in, get out, and move on to the next thing on your list.

There are keyboard shortcuts for almost every action! Pull up the full list by pressing ‘?’ from anywhere in Jira.

Spread the Word

Just the other day I overheard this from our support team:

“Keyboard shortcuts are probably the most underrated Jira feature ever. People often forget about them.”

Are you ready to look like a hero? Show the rest of your team how to save time:

  • Find the guy who spends his day hunting for issues, jumping in and out of new searches. Show him ‘/’ and ‘u’ (quick search and back to search, respectively).
  • Want your administrator to change a custom field name or tweak your workflow? Tell her to type ‘gg’ and she’ll pull up the right configuration page in seconds.
  • Overwhelmed by a large Agile project? Hit ‘-‘ to collapse all the swimlanes on the GreenHopper work board.

What’s your favorite keyboard shortcut? Vote now!
