I just arrived home from another awesome AtlasCamp, our annual gathering for developers, add-on vendors, and interested customers. AtlasCamp was a bit different this year. For the first time around we hosted camp in a European city — Weisbaden, Germany. It turned out to be the best and biggest AtlasCamp we’ve had yet! We had over 150 Atlassian attendees from all over Europe. As with the last AtlasCamp, I leave exhausted, relieved, excited, amazed, and highly energized for the future of Atlassian’s developer ecosystem.
The highlights of this AtlasCamp includes:
- Launch of the initial release of the Atlassian Marketplace. The Atlassian Marketplace is the new name and face of the old Plugin Exchange. The Marketplace gives developers the tools to sell their products using Atlassian’s payment systems.
- Customers can now try, buy, and install Marketplace add-ons directly from within their Atlassian host product– providing a pleasant and seamless buying and installation experience.
- Mike Lee, The Worlds Toughest Programmer. This is the first AtlasCamp where we had an external speaker who’s not an Atlassian developer or customer speak. Mike schooled us in Product Engineering — the stuff that happens in between product idea inception and shipping that product. His talk was very entertaining, insightful, and highly motivating.
- A preview of Remote Apps — an extension to our existing add-on framework that allows developers to build add-ons for our OnDemand platform as well as on-premise installations.
We also had some great talks on best practices for add-on safety checks, polyglot add-on development using Scala and JRuby, and some great tips on front-end dev for add-ons. However, the best part of this AtlasCamp (as with all AtlasCamps) are the people, interactions, and conversations — it’s what makes the event worth attending every time. Thanks go out to all attendees and speakers! I’m looking forward to the next time we all meet again.
