In September I headed out to Austin for the fourth meeting of the Austin Atlassian User Group. My mission was clear: answer questions, present hot topics and learn how our tools are being used. The air was hot, coffee was strong and folks were extra friendly.
The Value of a Small Group
The Austin group was just recently formed and has a small crowd, which allowed us to speak openly and intimately with each other. The size of the group enabled us to individually share experiences with Atlassian tools and ask our most burning questions. Common products among the group are Jira, Confluence and our Dev Tools, some with large, heavily customized installations and over 200 projects.
Jira Makes Toast?
Austin is thriving with super interesting customer use cases of Atlassian tools. AMD uses Atlassian software for project management, including running automated tests on hardware with Bamboo. They’ve created custom integrations between Jira and Bamboo to trigger builds. Similar to Bonfire, AMD has already developed a solution to track tests in Jira.

Join us Next Time
The Austin users were eager to learn more about the newest features in Jira 4.4 and best practices for GreenHopper. During the custom demo I created for the group, we explored the new Jira administration interface and discussed managing large numbers of projects in small fields. We thought it would be valuable to create wishlists for the group’s most wanted feature requests to bring back to Atlassian.
I highly recommend joining the Austin user group if you live in the area. You can look forward to future presentations on Bonfire and cross-product integrations. Gain expertise knowledge and share a beer and slice with a group of great folks.
