Think global, play local

AtlassianDE-t.pngAs you may have heard from my colleagues in the UK and Spain, Atlassian is ramping up its new Ambassador program in Europe. I am proud to represent Germany and be able to show the great production boost developers and technical teams can get when using Atlassian’s tools.

So, what does a German Ambassador do?

As an ambassador I will raise more awareness of Atlassian, our products and software development best practices in Germany. I will be talking at local events, like Java User Groups and conferences and participating in Barcamps and Hackathons.

At the moment we have 3 active Atlassian user groups (AUGs) in Hamburg, Berlin and Munich. I’ll help the AUG leaders to generate awesome events and get in contact with Atlassian users. I want to find out how people are using Jira, Confluence and the other agile development tools, what problems they ran into and how they solved it.

We have very active partners in Germany, selling our products and helping customers reach their full potential with our tools. I will share my Atlassian and software development stories at partner events. I really want to know how customers and partners tweak Atlassian’s products to solve their day to day problems. Together with our partners I want to discover stunning use cases and tell the community about it.

I will blog and tweet about all this stuff to share my knowledge and the use cases I uncover with the Atlassian community, and of course the broader technical community.

All in all my mission is to turn every German software developer into a happy nerd like me!

Sounds like fun? I think so too!

Sven_Peters.JPGLike my fellow ambassador in the UK, John Stevenson, already pointed out in his blog post, it is great to get paid for things you are already passionate about doing in your spare time. I love talking to the community about clean code, agile methodologies or the newest bleeding edge programming language. This job is a great fit for me! I’m based in Germany (near Hamburg). The team and I work with long-time Atlassian Ben Naftzger who is based in Atlassian’s uber-cool canal-side office in Amsterdam. Before joining Atlassian I worked in Denmark and Germany as a Java software developer. I spent the last five years as a team lead for a small group of agile developers, actually using most of the Atlassian products.

Do you want to be part of the German Atlassian community? Follow Atlassian Germany, come to an Atlassian user group event or even get funded to start one. Ping me if you have an interesting story to tell or just want to say “Hello”. You can email me at speters (at) atlassian (dot) com. I would really like to hear your opinions about software development, technology, our tools or your next crazy plug-in idea. I’m looking forward to meeting you at the next Jax, local JUG, AUG, partner event or at a coffee bar near you.
